Denver-based American Cheese Society (ACS) is the leading organization supporting and promoting American artisan cheese and cheesemakers, and LDEI CO Dame Jane Bauer serves the organization as the Education & Outreach Manager. For the first time in ACS’s 34 year history, its premier industry event will be coming to downtown Denver this summer! More than 1,300 leading industry professionals, purchasers, and influencers will attend Cheese with Altitude from July 26-29, 2017 to network, sample products, and learn from one another.
In conjunction with its Annual Conference, ACS proudly hosts the foremost judging of cheeses and cultured dairy products made in the Americas. In 2016, more than 1,800 different products were entered into the ACS Judging & Competition, which recognizes products of the highest quality for their aesthetic and technical merits. The top products are those judged deserving of recognition based on achieving a minimum point threshold. After two intense days of evaluation in Denver, first-place winners in each category will be judged head-to-head, and an overall “Best of Show” will be selected. Winners will be revealed at an Awards Ceremony on Friday, July 28.
Cheese with Altitude will culminate with the Festival of Cheese and Public Cheese Sale on Saturday, July 29—events designed to celebrate the cheeses entered into the ACS Judging & Competition. The festival is attended by approximately 1,600 individuals (industry members and general public), all of whom enjoy cheese while sampling craft beer, cider, and specialty foods from Festival sponsors. The Public Cheese Sale allows cheese lovers to purchase competition cheeses at incredible prices to benefit the nonprofit American Cheese Education Foundation.
Volunteers are needed to assist with everything from helping receive and sort cheese to preparing cheeses for the mother of all cheese fests, the Festival of Cheese. Volunteer shifts are available from July 21 through July 29, 2017. All volunteers receive an official volunteer t-shirt, a complimentary ticket to the Festival of Cheese, and have meals provided during their shift(s).
