The LDEI CO Scholarship Committee of Carol Fenster, Lois Hoffman, Shellie Kark, and Marleen Swanson, are pleased to announce the 2015 scholarship winners, both from Colorado State University:

CassandraRodriguez2015winnerCassandra Marie Rodriguez, seeking a Bachelor’s degree and teacher certification at Colorado State University in Family & Consumer Sciences (formerly Home Economics). Cassandra won the TILT Service Learning Award from CSU in 2014. Cassandra has extensive experience in baking/cooking as a caterer and she is a coach for the Public Achievement for Community Transformation (PACT) program at CSU. She plans to become a teacher in Northern Colorado and aspires to teach students how to maintain a healthy diet and bring creativity into their cooking and baking. She hopes to “touch as many kids as I can by empowering them to know how to cook for themselves and not rely on boxed or fast foods.”

KalynTaylor2015WinnerKalyn Michelle Taylor, seeking a Bachelor’s degree at Colorado State University in Soil & Crop Sciences, with a minor in Organic Agriculture. She plans to obtain her Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in International Soils and eventually hold a tenure-track position at a land-grant University, such as CSU, where she would teach and conduct research on ecological farming and rural food security. Kalyn is both a Reisher and Organic Agriculture Scholar, and was selected as Colorado Superwoman 2014 in Mind+Body Magazine and The Coloradoan newspaper. She is especially passionate about “food sovereignty, food security, sustainable agriculture, and soil science” and recently completed an internship on a local organic farm.

Each winner will receive $1,000, payable to Colorado State University and applied to their tuition for Fall, 2015.
